The new year is off to a good start! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of writing (Sunday evening 1\/5), I did the first lesson of “A Year with my Camera” and prepared for the first assignment in r\/photoclass. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m about to head out to do the Week 1 prompt for 52 Frames, a self-portrait (fitting!), and I have an idea I want to try. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also picked up two books from the library and started perusing them, and finished two of my Nikon classes, including one introductory class on camera operations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lastly, I revisited two classes from last year and asked for the materials so I could make some references for myself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So this is good – I’m 3\/3 on weekly prompts, I understand all of them and I picked up a few pointer for my camera that’ll come in handy now and into the future. I also got some other references ready, and I’m taking advantage of them already. Lastly, I got access to an old Flickr account of mine, from over a decade ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are two images from AYMC that illustrate the first lesson. It’s uncanny. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So basically, the idea is that a camera (all cameras) are programmed to show exposure as a certain shade of grey. The practical outcome here is that sometimes, photos don’t come out the way your eye sees it (if it’s all auto), and this is a reason why. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So in the images below, they look pretty similar right? If not, blur your eyes a little bit. One is a jet-black book, and the other is a bone-white sheet of paper, in identical light. Wild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyways, that’s it for now. In the week ahead, I have r\/photoclass (Wednesdays), AYMC (Thursdays), and 52frames (all week, due Sunday). That’ll keep me busy and I’ll recap next Sunday. I’m also getting things organized on life and on my computer so that I can hit the ground running every day here.
